Safeguard your home from tragedy with this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usfa.fema.gov\/downloads\/pdf\/home_safety_checklist.pdf\">fire prevention checklist<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Safety Alarms<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Each level of your home has one smoke alarm and\u00a0one carbon monoxide alarm.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0There is a smoke alarm inside and outside of each bedroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Each smoke alarm is cleaned and tested every month to make sure the batteries are working.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Smoke alarms are less than 10 years old. Carbon monoxide alarms are less than 7 years old.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Kitchen<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0The hood above your kitchen stove is clean.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0The stove hood ventilates to the outside.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Electrical &amp; Appliances<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Electrical cords do not have frays or cracks in them.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Additional outlets are circuit-protected and have multi-prong adaptors.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0All appliances are plugged directly into wall outlets.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Heating<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Both the chimney and furnace are cleaned and inspected every year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Allow at least 3 feet of space between furniture and: fireplaces, baseboards, space heaters, and wall heaters.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Fireplace and barbecue ashes are outside in a covered metal container at least 3 feet from anything flammable.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Space heaters are not powered through extension cords.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a1 \u00a0Heaters are equipped to shut off if tipped over.
