New Home Decorating Trends for 2010

Posted January 20, 2010 by Matthew Denton

These tips would make your home the envy of others.

Description

If you’re wondering what styles are in for this season, check out these tips that we’ve sourced from the best designers and decorators in the country.

Time for Turquoise
There’s nothing that can spice up a boring room but a touch of blue and green. According to the Pantone Color Institute of Carlstadt, New Jersey, “Whether envisioned as a tranquil ocean surrounding a tropical island or a protective stone warding off evil spirits, Turquoise is a color that most people respond to positively. It is universally flattering, has appeal for men and women, and translates easily to fashion and interiors. With both warm and cool undertones, Turquoise pairs nicely with any other color in the spectrum. Turquoise adds a splash of excitement to neutrals and browns, complements reds and pinks, creates a classic maritime look with deep blues, livens up all other greens, and is especially trend-setting with yellow-greens.”

Own a Piece of another Country
Never be afraid of add foreign-made pieces in your rooms. Grab a pillow with a Moroccan-inspired design. Choose Greek lamps that imbue drama in your living room. According to The Decorating Diva , one good thing is the “Merging of multi-cultural designs - Inspired from cultures and nations across the globe - with specific focus on China, Russia, Morocco, several Latin American countries and India.”

Wall Decals are Still In
Those marvelous silhouettes in the shape of classic chandeliers, standing flamingoes, wind-swept trees and a lot more are still in for this season. Let your kids choose which decals to include in their rooms so they can say they’re part of what their nooks look like.

Glass has a Place in Your Home
Go bold with your decors. That’s what Nine Clouds Beds of Ontario, Canada has in mind. It states, “Art-inspired glass pieces will be a favorite trend for accessorizing.  Colorful, mouth-blown glass will be found everywhere, from centerpieces to lamp bases.  Because of its unique properties, each piece will be different, adding a custom element.”

Eclecticism, Say What?
Arrange your decors inconsistently. RUM Magazine believes that eclecticism can be fun. It says, “Opposites may well meet and long live those who gather.”

We won’t argue with that.

Texture, Texture, Texture
Here’s top designer Jennifer Adams talking about the importance of texture in your house plus she adds purple and gold to the list of hot colors for the season.
