The Santa Barbara Zoo
Posted October 16, 2008 by Ima Local
Spend an educational day at Santa Barbara Zoo in beautiful Santa Barbara, California. Not only are there animals to see from all over the world, but small children will enjoy riding the carousel that has hand-carved exotic animals. At Lorikeet Landing, everyone can feed the colorful lories and lorikeets with a special nectar cup. There are Baringo giraffes to watch up close and feed at scheduled times, too. Adults and children alike can experience the Cats of Africa exhibit, where African lions, endangered Black-footed cats, Amur and snow leopards roam in natural habitats. Cute black & white ruffed lemur babies can be viewed along with Channel Island foxes, flamingos, and Inca terns. Watch the antics of the Humboldt penguins both above the ground and under the water. There are also awesome exhibits showing the Madagascar hissing cockroaches, red knee and pink toe tarantulas, desert hairy scorpions, the Puerto Rican crested toad, and the giant millipede for those who enjoy creeping creatures. Other animals shown are geckos, the 11-foot long Burmese rock python, Asian elephants, and silver-backed adult gorillas. Kids will enjoy taking a ride on The Zoo Train, which circles the perimeter of this zoo. It is open daily all year and fully accessible to handicapped visitors. Admission is free for children under 2 years of age.
