The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

Posted October 23, 2008 by Ima Local

The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium is a great place for families and field trips.  It is located north of town and can be difficult to find as it is off the beaten path.  The zoo features the standard fare of exotic animals, but the real standout is the PPG Aquarium.  The aquarium is 2 stories and features emporer penguins, jelly fish, manta rays, and a wide variety of salt and fresh water fish.  The zoo has recently built a new attraction for polar bears which can be viewed in a “water tunnel”.  The zoo is also renting out space for parties and events in this new building.  The best time to go to the zoo is during the week (not the weekend) before the rush field trip students start going in the Spring.  The zoo is small enough to be able to enjoy everything in a few hours, but big enough to feel like you spent your money wisely.
