The Franklin Institute Science Museum located at 222 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 (tel - 215.448.1200) is a fantastic experience for kids and adults alike.
The Franklin Institute has many scientific displays and hands on experiences. Among the best sections of the institute are the giant heart large enough for adults to walk and climb through, the planetarium, the Imax theater which is always playing something that can apeal to everyone, a real steam engine to explore and the hands on science experiments for little kids and big kids. The Franklin Institute also usually has some type of traveling display, recent ones included King Tut and also original Star Wars items with miniseminars about such star wars related things such as the optical science behind light sabers. Another favorite display loved by the locals is a lego model of the entire city of Philadelphia.
If you are not going with kids, the best time is during school hours as the institute can become jam packed on school holidays.
