The Beer Can House
Posted March 24, 2008 by Realty.com Editor
The Beer Can House is a Houston, Texas attraction that is certainly unusual and unique. Located just off Memorial Drive at 222 Malone Street, the Beer Can House is now open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 5 PM, but you can see quite a lot just driving by.
This incredible house is literally covered from top to bottom in decorations made from tens of thousands of beer cans. The late owner and artist, John Milkovisch, lived in this area his whole life and spent years decorating the house, trees, fence and yard. It simply has to be seen to be believed.
The Beer Can House is now managed by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art after winning a six figure grant to restore and preserve it. The Orange Show, at 2402 Munger Street, is another folk art jewel worth a visit when in Houston. Letter carrier Jeff McKissack created his shrine to the orange and his commitment to a healthy diet between 1956 and 1980.
Information about the Orange Show and the Beer Can House, along with pictures, can be found on their interesting website: http://www.orangeshow.org. You can also call (713) 926-6368 for more information.
