Moving to Washington, D.C. and looking for a great, green, environmentally friendly neighborhood to live in that’s not too far from the heart of D.C.? Check out Takoma Park, Maryland!
It’s only a 15-minute ride from downtown D.C. on the metro area’s clean, safe subway (Red Line), but you’ll feel just a little bit like you’ve stepped into Andy Griffith’s Mayberry. The town is 125 years old, full of trees, azaleas, and Victorian homes, and you can take the bicycle path by the creek all the way to the other side of D.C.
Then there is the jazz fest, the folk music festival, the art festival, the ice cream shop with the bust of Elvis in the window, the great video store, and Mark’s Kitchen, famous for vegan food (but where I can get a burger and a Coke float). The residents are mostly progressive liberals, but all points of view are welcome here. Come see us while the cherry blossoms are in bloom!
