If you ever visit Abilene Texas, be sure to take in the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature. The center is the only institution in the nation to specialize in exhibits from children’s books. So you will want to take advantage of the opportunity to see award winning art work on display. Admission is free. However, you will want to consult the exhibition schedule on the website before planning a visit. Many of the free family art activities are on Saturday. The center is located in the restored Rhodes Auto Building in historic Abilene at North 1st and Cedar Streets. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
