Frist Center for the Visual Arts: Martin Artquest Gallery

Posted October 24, 2008 by Ima Local

Why should parents bring their kids here?
Because they have hands-on stations where, not just children, but everyone gets to become an artist as they learn about art.

What are some of the attractions features? YOU HAVE TO MEET SWIFTY the mascot!!!
“ArtQuest is a colorful, exciting interactive education gallery where visitors of all ages discover exciting ways to learn about art.  Thirty hands-on stations provide individuals or small groups the chance to experiment and learn about a variety of art concepts.  The stations in ArtQuest relate art concepts to the world-class exhibitions in the Frist Center galleries and examine ways in which art relates to everyday life and culture.” from: http://www.fristcenter.org/site/artquest/

What part of town is it located?
MARTIN ARTQUEST GALLERY is located in downtown Nashville a few blocks off of the southwest interloop 45/65.

Is this a mostly a kid-only establishment?  Marketed toward all people (families, young adults, adults)?
This facility is everyone friendly. While Martin is greared towards children, this is only a part of the Frist Center for Visual Arts which houses Rodin, various Tennessee artists, etc.

Describe the event/establishment.  What does it look like?  What stands out the most?
Children receive instruction from very well educated and talented staff. They are not just left on their own to survive the art experience.

Is it safe?
The location is in a highly traveled area where business people are frequently coming and going. However, this is in downtown Nashville, and like any other downtown area with high traffic and many visitors, children should be kept in hand when outside of the building.

Recommended foods, rides, services, features?
The Center has both a gift shop and a cafe on site. The cafe is very kid friendly, serving everything from corn dogs, to homemade soups. For the adult there are alcoholic beverages available.
