Daytona Speedway

Posted October 18, 2008 by Ima Local

You don’t have to be a racing fan to enjoy a visit to the Daytona International Speedway. It’s just 4 miles west of the beach. Thsi will be a great day for the entire family! It opened in 1959 with the first Daytona 500. This speedway is one of the reasons Daytona is such a popular tourist destination. There are races that feature stock cars, sports cars, motorcycles, and go-karts, and is used for automobile and motorbike testing and other events many other days of the year. The grandstands can ahold more than 150,000 people. The Daytona 500 in February can be sold out as much as a year ahead of time, so buy yours and make hotel reservations as early as possible. Also, while you’re there you can take Speedway Tour, visit the Daytona Speedplay game center, Pit Shop souvenir and gift shop, 4th Turn Grill snack bar, and the Daytona Beach Area Welcome Center. A great day will be had by the entire family!
