Burpee Museum of Natural History

Posted October 20, 2008 by Ima Local

The Burpee Museum is located within the confines of Rockford itself, so it’s very simple and convenient to get to.  It is a Natural History Museum that dissects natural history from prehistory to current natural artifacts.  While they do market to all age groups, the Burpee Museum is a great place to take the children for a day-trip because it’s fun for both them and you and has the added bonus of education.  Boasting over 70,000 artifacts, the museum not only has traditional dinosaur artifacts that your kids will love, but it also gives an educational background on these creatures as well as human history.  Kids can explore the world of the first humans and then onto the first Native Americans, learning about our past cultures and history.  The museum also has exhibits on every area of the earth, from the skies to the ocean floor and the dirt beneath your feet; kids will be able to explore the entire world around them.  The museum also offers some great tours of the museum that are an in depth analysis of certain areas of natural history.  The guides are great and can adapt to entice both youngsters and adults for mutual enjoyment.
